Breaking news – it has been revealed that His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, will spend three days in Manchester next June, during which he is expected to hold a mass public event at the MEN Arena. The influential leader is also expected to visit London and Edinburgh on his UK tour next year.
He was just 15 when he was appointed ‘head of state’ in 1950 after Chinese troops moved into Tibet. He fled his homeland in 1959 after the failed uprising.
Beheld as the spiritual leader of Tibet, Traditionally, the Dalai Lama is thought of as the latest reincarnation of a series of spiritual leaders who have chosen to be reborn in order to enlighten others.
The Dalai Lama announced earlier this year that he will be stepping down from from front-line politics and despite Beijing’s decades-long campaign to undermine his influence, he remains deeply revered by most Tibetans.
