Here’s a humbling message to all girls in a relationship: don’t fret if your man pins up a new raunchy poster of a sizzling starlet, because it seems that implied sexiness is now indubitably reigning supreme.
Just recently, Zooey Deschanel, the ‘New Girl’, quirky love interest in 500 Days of Summer and the shy apple of Jim Carey’s eye in Yes Man has been voted Most Desirable Woman on a poll from online men’s magazine Askmen.com. It seems her big blue eyes, zesty personality, and charming style have really won over the typically testosterone-laden Great British public, beating what would typically be seen as obvious winners, such as the sirens of Rihanna, Katy Perry and Scarlett Johannson. However, this time around, ‘outright sexy’ could only scrape to 5th place with the pint-size vixen that is Mila Kunis.
It finally seems that British men have begun to embrace the woman who implies her sexiness, perhaps with a glint in her eye, or a flick of a smile, rather than explicitly flashing her cleavage, or gyrating her abdomen in the faces of open-mouthed onlookers.
The editor of Askmen.com, Charlie Parrish, explains to MTV News, ‘She is someone men want to be with and women want to befriend’. These deeper ties between longevity and desirability are being displayed more than ever before by our British blokes (rather than solely thinking with their singing sparrow) as the poll was based on looks, sex appeal and the ideal partner.
This shift in male ideals has really grabbed headlines and rocked the generic boat. Even royals like Kate Middleton and sister, Pippa Middleton, were within the top 10, as well as atypical looker Lana Del Rey and elegant intellect, Emma Watson. So it seems that this new refined, sophisticated and genuinely interesting woman is now the new ‘desirable’. Could this be our very own contemporary Miss Monroe? Only time will tell, but this definitely seems to be a great leap in the right direction for womankind.
