It was one of the most memorable outfits in the history of British Pop, and now Geri Halliwell has taken inspiration for her latest fashion venture straight from her iconic Union Jack dress.
The former Spice Girl created a media storm back in 1997, when she took to the stage at the Brit awards in the tight-fitting ‘patriotic’ design, and has attempted to recapture her particular brand of spice power with her latest collection for clothing retailer, Next.
The range, launched today, includes a maxi-dress, bikini, cowl neck dress, shoulder top and a tankini; all featuring the Union Jack flag. Miss Halliwell has been designing for Next for a couple of years now, and this range is sure to be a hit with the 2012 Olympics merely months away. Is this a shrewd marketing tactic by Geri, or a way to recapture her glory days given that the former Spice Girl is due to turn 40 soon?
The original dress, which became synonymous with Ginger Spice, started its life as a plain, black Gucci dress before Miss Halliwell had her sister sew a Union-Jack tea towel to the front. A year after the Brits performance the dress sold at auction for a staggering £41,320.
The range will be available online as of next month.
