Golden Balls To Silver Screen

David BeckhamDavid Beckham could soon be making a substitution off the football pitch and onto the cinema screens.

One of Becks’ closest friends Tom Cruise revealved at Tuesday night’s UK premiere of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol that he is keen to get the LA Galaxy star the perfect role to kick start his acting career.

It has been speculated since Becks’ move to LA, back in 2007, that he could make the transition from golden balls to silver screen after his football retirement, and wife Victoria has previously been vocal about her support for this career change.

Tom, 49, says he’s desperately searching for the right script, telling Mirror Football: “I’d love to do action movies with Beckham. He would be great, he could kick ass.”

Although he was strangely overlooked for a part in the film ‘Bend it Like Beckham’, a  small role in Goal gave Becks the chance to debut his acting skills and best friend Tom thinks he’d also make an excellent “baddie”.

The transition isn’t such a mission impossible as ex footballers Vinnie Jones and Eric Cantona have shown.

A source told Mirror Football: “David has been linked with Hollywood a number of times, but Tom is the only one he’d ever take up, he thinks Tom’s a legend.

The pals, whose wives Katie Holmes and Victoria Beckham are also friends, have hung out together for years.

Their friendship was cemented when Tom sent David, 36, the velvet jacket he wore in Jerry Maguire after finding out he and Victoria saw the 1996 film on their very first date.
