Is Mark and Lauren’s Essex engagement a scam?

Mark and LaurenHurray! Our ultimate guilty pleasure is back on our screens in all its freshly tangoed and vajazzled glory! That’s right, The Only Way Is Essex is back for a second series and it’s set to be bursting at the seams with glitz and glamour. But is there something going on which is faker than Amy’s boobs?

The show’s Mark Wright and Lauren Goodger have been on and off more times than Ross and Rachel from Friends, but now with a proposal in tonight’s episode it looks like the relationship is for keeps. However, latest reports suggest that the glamorous couple are faking their engagement for a glimpse of the limelight.

The notorious Essex charmer, Mark, has proved a hit with the ladies throughout the first series of the show and has even shared a recent romance with I’m A Celebrity star and playboy bunny, Kayla Mills. But it would seem his lothario days are in the past now that he is engaged to on/off girlfriend of 10 years, Lauren.

Ex girlfriend Kayla admits her shock at the couple reuniting their flame, days after her split from Mark. When asked if she thinks the engagement is a publicity stunt, she told New! Magazine: ‘I think that if they didn’t have a show following their lives, they wouldn’t be doing something so irrational.’

Tongues have been set wagging about the 24 year old’s sudden readiness to settle down with Lauren, also 24. An ITV source told the News of the World: “This is a relationship very much for the TV show. Mark and Lauren are only concerned with maximising their earnings while they can. None of us expects him to stay with her.”

The pair are said to be cashing in on magazine deals and have already secured a £100,000 deal with OK! magazine in which they declare their love for each other.

Let’s just hope we don’t have the UK’s version of fame hungry reality stars, Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag on our hands!! Tune in tonight to see the events unfold and cringe at the Essex-tastic proposal!
