If there was one reason to watch the Superbowl last night, Madonna’s return was definitely one of them. Her much anticipated performance at the American sporting event was a spectacle of marching bands, a choir, guest vocals and three different outfit changes.
Madonna rocked some of her classic tunes such as ‘Vogue’ and ‘Like a prayer’ mashed up with her new single ‘Give me all your luvin’ with rapper Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. Other singers to join the star on stage were Cee lo Green and LMFAO, who completed an all star cast for Madonna’s triumphant return.
The show was a complete performance, from the opening number beginning with a marching band, hip hop dancers, back flips from tight ropes, to an impressive ending with Madonna disappearing in to the darkness, and the message ‘World Peace’ left behind.
For her spectacular 12 minute performance, Madonna had an array of outfits, all custom made by Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy Haute Couture. She also wore a fierce headpiece by master milliner Philip Treacy, Miu Miu boots and Bvlgari earrings.
The outfits made the performance, they were everything you would expect from Madonna; embellishment, glitz and complete confidence to pull off all three looks effortlessly. Even Tisci when designing for Madonna said, “People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna.”
That was certainly the case on Sunday night, the limits, boundaries and hemlines were all pushed by this 53 year old performer. Madonna is the queen of reinvention, from decade to decade, year to year she still does something which surprises us. Whether you think she’s past her prime or not, you cannot deny she knows how to put on a great show. I can’t wait to see what she does next.
