Mariah Carey to be a judge on American Idol!

Mariah Carey judgeAfter the announcement that Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will not be returning to the judging panel on American Idol, there has been constant speculation about who will replace them. However, this week it was confirmed that none-other than diva Mariah Carey will be be joining the show when it returns for it’s 12th season in January.

Mariah issued a statement saying, “As a singer, songwriter and producer, it’s going to be fun and rewarding to help find new talent and give back with American Idol. I’m currently in the studio working on my new album and it’s first single, “Triumphant”, which will be out early next month.”

Mariah’s stint as judge, which I’m sure has nothing to do with wanting to promote her new album, has been welcomed by fans who are excited about seeing the diva in action as a judge. Let’s hope that for entertainment value we see plenty of tantrums from the famously short-tempered Mariah.

Speaking of entertainment, back in the UK, it’s almost that time again – where drama, bickering and talentless wannabes will dominate our Saturday night TV until at least Christmas. The X Factor is starting next month for what feels like the hundredth series, and auditions have already kicked off all round the UK.

After Kelly Rowland quit the judging panel after a half-hearted performance as judge last year (her acts were rumoured to have been left to fend for themselves whilst she swanned off to LA), there is a new judge on board – Nicole Scherzinger. After she was dropped from the US judging panel, Nicole has returned to the UK after her successful stint as guest judge in 2010. Tulisa is returning, no doubt keen to clean up her image after her recent sex tape scandal and Gary will also return. Louis, of course, is the one constant in the ever-changing line-up. (Well, does he really have any better offers?)
