After months of uncertainty, fans of Desperate Housewives can breathe a sigh of relief as plans to shoot an eighth and ninth season have been confirmed.
After much backstage negotiations the four main stars; Felicity Huffman, Terri Hatcher, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria are set to become the highest paid actresses on US television. This new deal will reportedly see each of them pocketing £12 million over the course of two seasons; that works out to £250,000 per episode.
There had been much speculation about the future of the hit show due to reduced ratings along with rumours that the actresses wanted to leave Wisteria Lane behind them and focus on other projects. The powers that be, however, were clearly determined to do whatever it takes to keep them on board, a source at ABC said: ‘We had to get the girls back. The show simply earns too much money to stop making it.’
New fan favourite Vanessa Williams, who made her debut this season, will be returning for season eight; however the show’s creator Marc Cherry will be taking more of a back seat. He will be stepping down as executive producer to work on other projects, one of which is a new show set to be called Hallelujah.
Nevertheless this new deal means that we can expect to enjoy watching the scandalous, funny and gripping lives of the women of Wisteria Lane until at least 2013.
