Zara Phillips, daughter of Princess Anne (Princess Royal) looked beautiful as she married her lover Mike Tindall (England Rugby player) in a £7000 Stewart Parvin weding gown, Jimmy Choo shoes and Princess Anne’s Greek key tiara. Simple, understated elegance for the 13th successor of the throne seemed appropriate for the Queen’s granddaughter who has always demonstrated her independence from her royal bloodline.
So what about the rest of them? The Queen looked stylish and summery in her pastel outfit. Princess Anne looked OK, her skirt was lovely although the cropped jacket seemed a little ill-fitted. Camilla Parker Bowles, well she rarely seems to look exceptional and the meadow on her head was a little odd but she at least wears outfits that fit well. As for the rest of the younger royals there wasn’t anything to be excited about. Princess Beatrice looks bonnier these days due to the weight loss but that colour and outfit she wore is quite ghastly. Her sister Princess Eugenie looked incredibly dull, no glamour whatsoever. Sophie, Countess of Wessex wore a lovely skirt but the jacket’s texture and large collar made her look frumpy and chunky. Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge wore a dowdy outfit with a dull fascinator and limp hairstyle.
Perhaps the royals would do well to seek the advice of a stylist for their next wedding as they really could do with some help. Having to dress conservatively certainly does not mean looking dowdy and old fashioned. Ironically, the eldest of the bunch, The Queen, always seems to come out on top, perhaps they’ll ask her opinion next time.
