Katie Holmes unveiled her latest autumn clothing collection last Thursday, gathering only the most fashion forward of guests to peek into the actress’s most recent collaboration with stylist Jeanne Yang at Maxfield in West Hollywood. The collection, aptly named ‘Holmes & Yang’ includes a women’s and girl’s collection and consists of basic, luxury pieces designed with versatility in mind.
The couple launched the business in 2009 and Katie then said of the range; “We just wanted to do comfortable clothes that you can wear going from a meeting to being a mom to going on a date.” Objectives achieved. Finished in a palette of classic navy, black and cream the line features leather biker jackets, luxe trousers and evening dresses.
The luxury garments initially began with a toddler line, inspired by her own daughter who was said to be the muse for all the children’s collections.”Jeanne’s girls and my daughter have a point of view of what they want to wear,” said Holmes. Once expanded, the collaboration bore closer similarities to that of a high end brand, with the duo boasting each piece as “lined in silk”, rather than the typical celebrity budget plunge into fashion designing.
Still, everyone’s favourite controversial celebrity mum has a more hands on approach to design than her famous counterparts. Speaking to Vogue last month, she said; “We’ve incorporated high-waisted trousers – a mannish style into our collection. We spent a lot of time perfecting their shape and making them flatter. I’m thrilled because things came out even better than I expected.”
Partner in design, Jeanne Yang, is a widely recognised Hollywood stylist with extensive experience in the industry with covers and editorials for GQ, Vanity Fair and Vogue, with clientele boasting George Clooney and Tom Cruise. Holmes & Yang is Holme’s first premium clothing line.
