Frankie Cocozza spilled into the headlines last year as the ‘rebel’ contestant of the ITV talent show. Claims of drug taking, wild partying and turning up late for rehearsals were all against the 19-year-old Pete Doherty wannabe.
So it came as little surprise that the Big Brother line up this year featured none other than the X Factor underdog. Expectations of potential anarchy, extreme antics and drunken brawls were high. However, it seems the teenager may be more loveable rogue than rebel without a cause.
The real turning point came yesterday amid the mother of all cat fights between Denise Welsh and Nicola McLean. The fight dominated last night’s episode, aptly labelled ‘pantsgate’ referring to the incident where Welch pulled down playboy bunny twin, Karissa Shannon’s pyjama bottoms. The ex talent show hopeful really came into his own, telling Mclean that she had changed since Natalie Cassidy left the house, and consequently diffusing the growing tension in the house.
The only thing the great British public love more than an underdog is rooting for one. And the figures show. Bookmakers Ladbrokes have ranked Cocozza as the 11/8 favourite, overtaking Welsh rugby star Gareth Thomas at 13/8. A Ladbrokes rep said: “Frankie’s finally struck a chord with punters. It looks like Gareth and his nice guy act might fall at the last hurdle.”
