Autumn Essentials: Leg Wear

With the new season almost here it’s easy to get carried away with what’s hot on the fashion front. But perhaps the most important addition to our wardrobes for the cold temperatures to come is leg wear and hosiery.

Now, I’m a huge fan of all things related to dressing legs up whether this be bold and colourful, inspirational prints or mixing it up with textures; there is a lot to be said for leg wear. This can be overlooked especially when coats and boots are equally essential for A/W 11.

So what delicious treats have designers been whipping up especially for us? Take a look at these must have trends and high street buys influenced from the Autumn/Winter catwalks.

Diane Von Furstenberg showcased ever-so-elegant designs at New York Fashion Week. Inspired by the Baroque trend, delicately embellished and made from luxurious fabrics she did not disappoint. You too can have seductive leg wear for a fraction of the price. Try Pretty Polly Sparkly fashion opaques… these boast an array of jewels at the front of each leg to dazzle you from day to night.

Wool is the ideal fabric to go for when choosing tights or leggings, and it looks great in neutral, muted tones. Ribbed or cable knit, Topshop’s Modal Wool Ribbed tights in Grey will take care of your pins without pulling at those purse strings. Yes you are allowed to introduce colour to your winter wardrobe and with endless shades to choose from the choice is yours. Autumnal hues ranging from olive greens and earthy greys to rustic reds and mild mustards are all favourites of mine, but opt for a colour palette which suits you.

Luxurious and naughty, let your animalistic instinct unfurl with Wolford’s Wilderness tights. They feature a sheer finish and unique zebra print design so you certainly won’t go unnoticed wearing these gems!

Following one of this season’s hottest catwalk trends, tartan heritage is so very versatile. If you don’t want to walk out the door wearing head-to-toe tartan, why not channel your look towards your legs. ASOS offer authentic heritage inspired white tartan tights with a comfortable fit; the striking white shade is a fresh alternative to other bright red tartans which can overpower some people.

And let’s not forget Henry Holland who is making his mark on the catwalks, on the high streets and just about everywhere else this season! If you’re looking for picture-perfect patterns look no further than New Look who now stock Henry’s quirky designs. I think his Superstar black tights will have you looking hot-to-trot in no time.

After all life is a catwalk… and fashion encourages us to experiment with just about every style combination there is, so finding the right leg wear is just as crucial. In our modern consumer-driven lives where everybody loves to shop, there seems to be a constant battle between catwalk quality style and affordability, but can we ever really find high fashion at high street prices? That’s the beauty really, with so many new designer led ranges now collaborating with high street brands, yes we can.
