A/W 11 For The Pear Shaped Woman

Jean Paul Gaultier AW 11With London Fashion Week looming, a summer that’s been, in actual fact, like an autumn and a rather dramatic weight loss, it seems that I have absolutely no choice but to invest in a brand new wardrobe. I mean, I can’t walk around looking like a bag lady, can I? So, I have decided to dissect autumn’s trends and pick out the ones that will suit my shape, which is a pear, and that I will benefit from the most!

First up, the glamorous and decadent forties trend that’s storming towards us in wiggle inducing heels. High on the wave of nostalgia and with Mad Men still strongly trending, fashion will be exploring the forties this season and it’s super easy to take on board. Looking like our grandmas has never been so sexy! Less pastels than Betty Grable and less girly girl than Rita Hayworth, it’s the new 1940s girl, post-war and ready to show off those curves.

Jean Paul Gaultier show us how it’s done by night; sexy, feminine and strong. Think adding fierce fedora hats in a multitude of colours to funk up your outfit, or gorgeous gloves in luxe leather to add a mysterious vixen vibe. Don’t forget that cigarette holder! Pussy bow blouses are among the nicest touches, and even a peter pan collar can be thrown in for good measure. Balance it out with a tight fitting pencil skirt, below the knee this season remember! Miu Miu shows us how it’s done by day, with floaty tea dresses in perfect prints and colours. So, whether you’re a wallflower or a show off, this trend can be done, dusted and honed by October if you’re style savvy. Naturally slim girls can get away with a higher hemline and higher necklines! Anyone a little hippy, stick to a long pencil skirt to hug your curves, and busty ladies try and avoid high necklines or anything too fussy on top. Stick to a sheer blouse or pussy bow for a sleek and chic nod to the trend. To compliment the entire look, think a nice pin curl and strong eyebrows! Fabulous.

Louis Vuitton AW11Next up is the brilliantly naughty and sensually seductive fetish trend. Strictly not for the faint hearted, this trend is the epitome of power dressing. Rihanna sings about it, and now you can dress in it – bondage wear has never been so hot! Now, I’m not suggesting you go out in public wearing strange and obscure rubber ties. Think a watered down version, a rubber dress a la Katy Perry? This trend is best worked in black; black leather, black lace, black sheer panels. The only colour you should mix in is a cool crimson lip, bringing out the femininity of this somewhat harsh trend.

For extra fashion brownie points, why not go all out and combine the two trends? They sit along rather nicely together, and are easily interchangeable depending on your mood. So whether you want to be a playful pin up girl or a daring dominatrix, embracing autumn’s new trends into your life is easily done.
