Best Foot Forward

Are you suited and booted yet? It may seem a strange question when the last of British summer is here, but starting to think about your winter wardrobe needs to happen before the last coat left in the shops is a reject puffa jacket and sandals have been relegated to the sale rails.

For boots it has to be Topshop, with their selection of Chelsea ankle boots that are in a gorgeous leather with buckle detail and unlike some an ankle zip to avoid that dreaded pull on moment that never seems to go well. The only question is whether to go for black or brown? My solution (though your debit card may not like it?): buy both. Brown tan is fantastic with jeans while patent black will work with suits through rain, slush and until summer re-emerges some time next May.

For those who prefer a more adventurous walk on the wild side for winter, River Island’s leopard print pair are perfect even for the less adventurous fashion lovers, and are a great way to introduce colour and pattern if like me you’re a devotee of all things noir.

If you’re someone who’s brave enough to go for nude colours even when it’s less than perfect outside these neutral boots are the way to go. Just be careful out there when it comes to puddles and mud!

Alternatively if you prefer classic black but the support of wedge, hotfoot it over to Dune for a pair that will see you through rain slicked winters (or the current British ‘summer’) with this latest offering. The Papworth is most definitely pap worthy.

Equestrian style is also back, although it might seem that it never actually went away. Whether you prefer full length and fabulous leather or the shorter jodhpur boot style, make like our Olympic dressage team and go for stylish glamour.

Lastly, if trailing round the shops is as unappealing as last year’s flip flops, ASOS is the answer to your shopping prayers. Give more feminine ensembles a tougher edge with River Island’s fab biker ankle boots or go for classic with a colourful twist instead.

So much choice, so little time? Which will be your best foot forward this season?
