Breton Stripes

Breton stripesStripes are taking over this summer! They are engulfing everything from dresses, skirts and shirts to handbags and shoes, even belts. They are appearing as primary colours of green and blue mixed with white or as pink and red with inputs of black.

It is a far cry away from the striped black and white prison suits, Where’s Wally jumpers or the stripes that don candy sticks. They come in different widths, lengths and it looks as though they are here to stay throughout summer 2011.

Many may fear this though as horizontal lines can make a woman’s bottom half appear wider, however, block colours can cleverly camouflage this, working to an advantage. If you are brave a full striped summer dress with bright neon heels in lemon or red is the way forward. For those feeling less brave but want a change, try for a striped skirt with a plain coloured top or a simple white vest, perhaps even a striped shirt with a pair of white linen trousers or flared denim jeans.

Even a simple striped bag or pair of heels can create one of summer’s biggest trends, letting you feel part of the look in a less conspicuous way. It will brighten up those grey days on the road to hopefully a hot summer and can instantly brighten up your day!

The classic Breton stripes have so far been seen on Rihanna, Nicky Hilton and on the catwalks of Fendi, Prada, Haider Ackerman and Bensoni. Prada’s mix of pink and red Liquorice Allsorts inspired stripes have had many drooling, it is all about fun. The stripes are bolder, wider and can even be mixed with polka dot belts!

The look is available in many high street shops from Karen Millen to Warehouse, Topshop and Oasis. So there is no need to envy the designers as we can all relish in stripes this summer!
