Colour Me Cute

A 50’s inspired fashion phenomenon is currently jiving its way back down our high streets.

That’s right ladies, one of fashion’s most fun and flirty eras is making its presence felt in a modern world with an insatiable appetite for vintage clothing and revisiting earlier styles.

That means that to stay ahead of the crowd, it’s never been more important to express your femininity in retro styles that, if chosen well, can suit and flatter every figure.

The thing that I really love about this particular decade in fashion is that in recreating some aspects of these looks, us girls can really have some fun with it! There’s something about a well fitting pretty mini shift dresses, or a waist accentuating frock, or a full and voluminous skirt teamed with a great pair of feminine heels that can be so playful and gorgeous.

If you’re stuck when it comes to shopping for a dress in keeping with this 1950’s revival and want to really embrace the look, I would advise that any fabrics you consider should be chiffon, lace, silk, taffeta or organza as the latter can help create that extra volume in the skirt from waist to hemline.

Pastel colours are still very on trend in most spring/summer collections and if you find yourself drawn to these colours it’s a very wise choice, but there are still many gorgeous prints and bold colours around to choose from and many designers are not afraid to clash their colours.

In terms of some high street haunts, Zara, Mango and Miss Selfridge have some lovely and highly individual pieces, as do ASOS, Boohoo and Very in terms of your online resources for shopaholics!

I hope that some of these pieces may be help in searching for your perfect 50’s inspired frock!
