Over-sized rings, magpie attracting earrings, armour-esque necklaces and tough cuffs, I own almost every piece of costume jewellery going.
This infatuation is beginning to get out of control however, and at times I do scare myself. Needless to say I have found another collection of jewellery to fall hopelessly in love with that goes by the name of Fenton and Fallon.
Jewellery designer Dana Lorenz created her collection Fallon as a follow up to her previous Fenton collection. Since 2006, she has opened a Lower East Side store in America, received a 2010 nomination for CFDA Swarovski Accessory Designer of the Year and worked alongside Proenza Schouler and Thakoon. Celebrities from Michelle Obama to Blake Lively have worn her jewellery, which makes her already renowned in the celeb world.
Her Spring/Summer 2012 Fenton collection features intricate designs of necklaces and cuffs, as well as individual feathers. Silver chained necklaces are adorned with turquoise, taupe and lime beading, featuring stone work, which sets off a tribal theme. Her thick, heavy silver cuffs are polished to perfection, which would add a touch of the tough to any outfit. Her statement pieces feature crystals, pearls and multifarious knotted chains, which can be dressed down or up with almost any outfit. Shark teeth adorn some of her necklaces, an inspiration from when she was a child and use to collect shark teeth.
Taking her main inspiration from Miami art deco architecture and an 80’s Italian group called The Memphis Group, Lorenz successfully presented her new spring collection. Using her trademark of twisted chains, she created pieces that a low-key individual can wear but also those who want to make a striking statement. Her pieces work extremely well with this year’s tribal, North-African theme, as well as the ocean theme cited by many other designers such as Versace, Givenchy and Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
My personal favourite has to be the Long Necklace with Single Pendant, taken from her Fenton SS12 collection, as well as the Hinge Resin Cuff Brass and Baroque Handle Ring Brass from the Autumn/Winter 2011 collection.
Her jewellery is anything but forgettable, which I absolutely adore and I personally cannot wait to see what she presents for her AW12 collection. Knowing me, I will probably be trying my hardest to attain a piece from her collection, perhaps even considering whether or not to sell my soul in the process!
