Hot Hair Trends for 2011

OK, so this year you’re thinking its time to change your look. New style, new you right?  You’ve booked that appointment at the hairdressers but you’re still not certain of which fabulous new hairstyle you want for 2011.Well luckily for you, here’s a bundle of the best hair trends to keep you looking stylish all year round.

Cut

This year, the most on trend hair cuts take inspiration from mid length styles of the 70’s and short, striking looks from the 60’s. Medium length styles were popular with celebs in 2010 and they are back in 2011. Try a medium bob cut with a fringe, for a look that gives a nod to the 1960’s with a classy modern touch.

If you’re feeling daring, why not go for the iconic pixie crop? Ditching the long locks for this sexy style was definitely the right move for Emma Watson. So if you’re revamping your image, take a leaf out of the Harry Potter star’s book and frame your face with an edgy short style.

Colour

2011 is all about experimenting with your hair colour. Cheryl Cole admits that she enjoys trying out new shades and colours. Whether you’re going for one or two shades lighter or a full on brunette to blonde transformation, get experimental.

Redheads will also be big again this year, so when it’s dull and dark outside take inspiration from the likes of Rhianna. She rocks a strong and vibrant red that reflects her personality and suits a short curly hairstyle, this style is perfect for those who want to make their hair their statement fashion piece this season. Or if you’re looking for something a little more understated, go subtle with auburn and match with pink dewy toned make up to complete the look.

Brunettes are also huge this year. The most popular style to go for will be mixing light and dark shades for a natural look. Ask your hairdresser for “Plait-lights” to get a perfect natural looking shade. With this style, the hair is plaited and then a colour lighter or darker than your natural shade is painted over the top. Then when the hair is undone, you’re left with a beautiful natural looking shade with subtle highlights of colour.

If you are thinking about going blonde this year, go for a dramatic ice or platinum colour for an on trend edge. Think Gwen Stefani or Michelle Williams for style inspiration. Only try this at home if you are a natural blonde, for best results book yourself in at a good hairdressers, as bald isn’t on trend this year!

2010 saw the emergence of the dip-dye trend, where the ends of hair are dyed a different colour to the rest. It’s one of those love it or hate it looks, with lovers saying it’s modern and stylish whilst haters arguing it’s a fancy name for grown-out roots. But whichever side you sway to, it looks like it’s here to stay in 2011 with the likes of Alexa Chung and Rachel Bilson still working the trend. If you fancy giving this trend a try, a popular interpretation is a chocolate brown base colour with sandy blonde ends.

Styling

When it comes to styling your locks this year, swap your straighteners for rollers as waves and curls are going to be much bigger than poker straight looks. Waves make your look appear effortless yet stylish and give a pretty bohemian vibe to outfits.

A lot of you will also be glad to hear that the classic sleek and shiny ponytail is making a comeback; it’s easy to master and goes with any outfit, perfect!

Another easy to master and low maintenance trend for this year is the centre-parting. Working best for mid length hair, this trend is inspired by the grunge look and is great when paired with a simple updo.
