Novelty Knits

You either love them or hate them but you have to admit Christmas wouldn’t be the same without novelty knits invading your personal space. In the early nineties a BHS Christmas jumper you were made to wear by your Mum was everything but cool. However over a period of time seasonal sweaters have managed to leave behind their comical-geeky-unfashionable image and become a key winter piece.

Even super-stylish X-Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger was sporting a CJ during filming on the set of Coronation Street for the final in Manchester yesterday evening. Nicole picked up her festive red and white striped candycane knit jumper at Topshop for a reasonable £50.  Also available at Topshop are reindeer, snowmen and subtler fairisle knit jumpers, all priced between £42 and £50. Dorothy Perkins and New Look have similar pieces priced a little cheaper.

Friday next week is officially Christmas Jumper Day, when Save The Children for one day only encourages us to wear our festive fashions in exchange for a donation to charity. So Bah Humbug or not there’s no excuse for not getting into the Christmas spirit on Friday. Remember if you don’t have a festive novelty knit create one yourself. Why not thread some baubles and some homemade paper snowflakes to make your own far more interesting one-off piece?
