Peplums have burst back onto the scene this spring/summer 2012 season and luckily, like most of the other trends this season, it’s a wonderful one. (Well, I think so anyway!)
This structured yet feminine trend puts emphasis on the waist making for both a striking, sexy silhouette and a fun, funky accessory at the same time. Originally from the 1940′s, this sophisticated style is influenced by the tailored fashion of both the everyday and upper class 40′s women and is the perfect style to take you from day to evening.
This season it’s all about flairs and frills to frame your hips, but, if like me, the mere thought of adding extra volume to your waistline has you running for the hills you need not worry, for this pretty peplum surprisingly has a great effect on the hips, creating the ultimate curve enhancement… result!
Another bonus to this trend is the fact that you don’t need to worry too much about accessorising, as the peplum in itself creates a big enough focal point that you can get away with minimal jewellery, less is more after all! All you really need is a detailed shoe and a nice skinny belt to pull everything together. You can even reverse rolls with this trend and purchase a detachable peplum as an accessory to transform the clothes you already have in your wardrobe!
It’s safe to say that peplums have been popping up on dresses, skirts, tops, jackets, even playsuits and jumpsuits all over the show, and here’s the best of the bunch.
