Don’t worry there is no need to shield your eyes from the screen, as I definitely don’t mean the hairdo, phewww! Of course, I’m referring to the mullet hemline trend!
This sexy yet feminine trend is perfect for when you can’t decide between party or casual, modest or sassy, maxi or mini… instead you can have the best of both worlds, and who doesn’t like having the best of both?
As yet another 80′s throwback (again this time redesigned in a fresh, new and inspiring way), with this trend it’s all about “business in the front, party in the back” as they say, and everyone from celebrities, designers & mass retailers are scrambling to get a taste of this new look.
Even just a few days ago I spotted this trend on both Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holden as they battled it out for mullet victory. Both sported the latest look, Alesha in a funky sci-fi ensemble, whilst Amanda gave a nod to the neon trend in a stunning bright yellow a white floral lacy number.
And you certainly can’t blame them for loving this look, as this style is extremely versatile, popping up everywhere on dresses, skirts, tops, shirts and even t-shirts. One of the best features of this asymmetrical cut is the fact that it is easily transformed, whether you want to create a look appropriate for a formal function or just something casual you can wear all day, any day.
However, the biggest beauty, for me and I’m sure to all my fellow short ladies, is the excellent trick of the eye this skirt and dress style creates. This genious cut reveals our pins in a smart yet classy way and in effect elongates the legs, creating a taller looking frame and, of course, making for a very happy short girl!
And of course not forgetting the shoes. Ever worn a maxi dress or skirt with a pair of gorgeous skyscraper shoes, yet the dress/skirt is too long to show them off? Well, thanks to this new trend you can again have the best of both worlds with an on-trend dress that shoes off your super stilettos and pins in all their glory!
Here’s some of my top picks from the highstreet:
Top tip: Don’t have any spare pennies? Don’t worry, this is a perfect D.I.Y candidate! Simply take to your old maxi dress with a pair of scissors and a steady hand and voilà! Your very own mullet inspired creation!
