The New Denim

Now that the new year is in full swing and the sale items are crowding the shops, the time for a new year’s wardrobe to go with your new year’s resolutions has never been more convenient.

In an industry were shopping for clothes can cost you a month’s rent, it’s easy to get carried away, but when you actually think about things there is nothing more satisfying than opting for value for money; it can be done and you can get that same buzz you get from bidding on designer pieces, you just need to know where to spot a bargain or two. If ever there was an investment to be made in the style stakes it has to be choosing the right denim.

Last week I had a job interview with a denim apparel company and this sparked an idea for a new article, especially for you on-trend fashionistas looking for an instant update on your denim wear.

2011 saw the likes of underground glam style denims which rocked the catwalks with a much darker, tougher look but now for 2012 it seems that the hottest look to be seen on the streets is colour blocking and more so bright shades of denim in just about every colour of the rainbow.

With so many colours to choose from how can you ever pick just one? Topshop have nailed the sugar coated colours for skinny jeans, ranging from acid shades such as neon lime and watermelon red all the way to those lighter pastels including peppermint and orange sorbet; I think you’ll agree the new colour spectrum for 2012 is delicious. Whether you’re keeping your look casual or planning a girly night out, denim has always been the classic staple to have in your closet, so what could be better than adding some new additions and injecting bold colours into the mix?

All you have to decide on now is how much you are willing to spend on denim wear and whatever statement you are trying to make. If it’s laid-back loose fitting neutral pieces you’re after, try Gap or American Apparel; whereas if you’re looking for denims that are unique and sure to turn heads then choose ASOS or Urban Outfitters; both brands guarantee an individual styling experience. However, if you’re simply craving your next high street spend and need a pick-me-up fashion fix, then look no further than those discount rails, you’re sure to find some denim that’s right for you in there somewhere… . What are you waiting for? Go bag a bargain.
