Autumn/Winter 2010-11 Hairstyles for 1950s Lovers

So if Autumn/Winter 2010-11 clothing is all about the 50s inspired look, what about the hair?  That too reflects this very era and can be worn in a number of ways.  Whether you go for the beehive, the layered hair with gentle curves, the ponytail, or the poodle, if you’re an avid fan of 1950s style then these hair dos will complete your 50s look.

Back then hairstyles tended to be soft and short but this is not the 50s and for those of you with your proud long manes, gentle layers and tousled wavy hair will give you a sexy look that reflects the mood of the era.  There is something so sexy about long wavy silky hair, what it is, we’re not quite sure, but for those of you who want to know how to perfect this look, here are few tips.

Create a textured base with the hair.  Use your hairdryer to smooth frizzy hair after washing and give it that silky look.  Lift the top layer of your hair upwards above your head.  Face the blow-dryer towards the mirror for a few moments to create some lift.  This will add volume around the crown of your head.  Moving your attention to the end of your hair give it a rough blow-dry to create a natural wavy look.  For those who like to keep their hair off their face add a loosely fixed messy plait at the back of the head.

An alternative look is loose curls along the length of your hair.  These can be created with curlers, large barrel curling tongs or ceramic straighteners.  If the curls come out too tight then merely run your fingers through your hair to loosen them up and create that gentle elegance.

If up-dos are your thing then long hair is ideal.  Create the beehive or pin curls atop your head.  The beauty is nowadays you can use clips and pins to throw your hair up however you wish and even if it ends up looking like a half-eaten pineapple, you can pretend it was meant to!
