Cloaks & Capes – from Catwalks to Comfort Clothes

If you want to go for one of this season’s minimalist look of simple elegance, what better way to do it than with a statement cape?  Don’t get us wrong, you do not need a leopard print cape or one with leather piping to make a statement.  Capes have a presence of their own.  Not only can you pretend to be wonder woman, hide those flabby bits easier and keep warm, you can also wear something utterly simple underneath and still look like you made an effort.

The cape not only echoes the 1950s chic that is so Autumn/Winter 2010-11, it is utterly practical and comfortable ensuring it will become the ultimate comfort clothes item this winter.  They can be found in just about every fabric and style, from Missoni’s woollen blends to Alexander Wang’s mid-calf length.

Try the cape with skinny trousers, boots, knee-high socks, wide leg high-waist trousers, 60 denier tights or chunky knit tights.  The opportunities are absolutely endless though for your body shape some things will especially slim your look.  For example, if you are the “apple shape” type woman you should show off your sexy pins with skinny trousers, tights or knee-high socks whilst the cape hides the fuller stomach area.  For those who are “pear shape” be careful not to buy cloaks that are too short and cut your body in half at your widest point.  Add some sexy sunglasses (weather permitting), long sleeve gloves and a short handle handbag, or clutch, to create a warm, comfortable, classy outfit that’s so 1950s chic and 2010!
