This summer, whether you are living it up at Leeds Festival, raving at Reading or going crazy for Creamfields, there are a few festival fashion must haves to keep you looking glamorous in the fields of mud!
Firstly, denim shorts are without question the most appropriate item of clothing at any festival. Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller and Daisy Lowe were all spotted in short denim cut offs at this year’s Glastonbury. Unfortunately not all of us mere mortals can afford a Louis Vuitton wardrobe, unlike Emma Watson, so my suggestion is Levi’s. You can easily pay around three pounds on a pair of Levi jeans or short on internet shopping sites such as eBay or at your local charity shops. Remember, one girls trash is another girls treasure!
Either folded or frayed denim shorts are a necessity for any ‘fashionista’ this summer. And if the British weather disappoints again this summer you can always team the shorts with black, floral or heart printed tights, or if you are focusing more on the festival grunge look, Kate Moss and Daisy Lowe were seen wearing fishnets and Pretty Polly tights.
Second on my festival fashion needs list is the playsuit. Remember, practical but pretty is the key when packing for any festival, so this makes the playsuit festival perfection. Bright colours will not only incorporate the season, but they will also make it easier for your friends to spot you in a crowd.
Another great thing about playsuits is that they can be used day and night. Collaborate with oversized shirts for day and with lots of oversized jewellery for the night. Corinne Bailey Rae looked sweet and casual in her navy playsuit at Glastonbury, a definite look to steal.
Since Britain is known for its surprising and somewhat unacceptable weather, Macs are essential. Not only will they protect you when the heavens open and keep you looking cute, but they are also a cheaper and lighter alternative to trench coats.
Sadly, since heels are never appropriate at festivals, our feet have to take solace in wellington boots. Although black is more likely to colour coordinate with anything and everything in your backpack, wellies are a great opportunity to be creative. Bright colours are a great way to brighten up the gloomy weather.
Remember, don’t be afraid to clash! Mixing bright colours and patterns is totally acceptable whilst listening to your favourite artists with your favourite people. Hunter wellington boots are all the rage with the celebrities this summer, Jo Whiley, Pixie Lott and Lily Cole to name a few.
Finally, the sunglasses (a fundamental festival accessory) Not only protecting your eyes from UV rays, but also shielding your friends from having to look at your blood shot and sleep deprived eyes! Round glasses are making a comeback this year and will make anyone look quirky and fun. However, they are a very daring choice and only a few people can pull them off, many of us just end up looking like a tribute to John Lennon! So make sure you are confident and chic enough to look the part.
Whether you are into Aviators, Wayfarers or Visor frames remember retro and vintage is the way to go. Also add a splash of colour, it is summer after all. But most of all have fun with your festival fashion!
