Lone Parent Family Holidays, Not Lonely Holidays

Going on holiday with your child or children as a single parent can feel unappealing and even scary, as visions of struggling to keep the kids entertained and feeling lonely and bored are all too understandable.  Watching the other holiday makers with the support of a partner, whether that be someone to talk to over dinner or someone to lean on when the local vendors won’t stop pressurising you to buy, only adds to your feeling of loneliness.

Holidays are such a great way to bond with loved ones and allow quality time together.  The good news is that there are companies that specialise in holidays for single parents and, in so doing, allow such families to have a truly magical time.  Some such companies are listed below.  For more information, contact them direct.

Acorn Travel

The Acorn Travel Group class themselves as specialists in school and youth group travel and having been established almost 30 years, they’ve certainly done something right.  They are not only ideal for sporty families given their focus on adventure they are also a popular choice for single parent families as their holidays allow opportunities to socialise during and after the activities.  According to their website they “get lots of feedback from single parents saying that their children had a great time making friends, and that supervision is easy – which is especially welcomed as they (the parents) made new friends too!”

Single Parent Travel Club

The Single Parent Travel Club puts single parents in touch with other lone parent families who want to go on holiday.  The joining fee is £7.50 and holidays range from days out in the UK to Kenyan safaris.  They also welcome single grandparents and other single adults who have the responsibility of caring for children.

What began as a small membership in 1991 has expanded hugely over the years and they now have members from Scotland to Guernsey and many places in between.

Club members holiday all over the UK, Europe, USA, Africa and Australia, and stay in all sorts of accommodation from tents, caravans, youth hostels and villas to 5 star hotels. There are no hidden costs – you pay what the holiday itself costs.

Single Parents on Holiday

Single Parents on Holiday was launched in 2006 with the intention of offering single parent families high quality.  They aim to please the discerning traveller who would rather someone else did the organising or simply likes to treat him or herself and the kids to a little bit of luxury.

Mango was started by two single parents who are now partners in both senses of the word. They have clear ideals about holidays and provide for various family types, those wanting to stay in the UK and those wanting to go further afield.  They arrange a variety of holidays from camping to skiing, from Devon to Morrocco and have recently began collaborating with The Adventure Company to bring more options to their customers.

Small Families

Small Families cater for lone parent companies specifically.  Since 2002 they have organised and supported families on such holidays, creating a safe environment for the kids allowing the parents to relax and socialise themselves.  They tend to use good quality mid-range hotels, where value, menu choice, facilities, child friendliness, activities & customer care incorporated.
