Romantic Holidays in Turkey

Full of incredible scenery, culture and cuisine, Turkey is a wonderful choice for couples wanting to get away from it all.  Away from the tour buses and parties the country makes for a wonderful romantic getaway.

With so many travel agents and tour operators offering cheap holidays to Benidorm, sorry Bodrum, one can be forgiven for thinking that only those who wish to visit tourist hot-spots have anything to gain from a county where the holidays come without the price tag that many other European destinations bring.  The truth, however, is that there are a multitude of holiday experiences that can be had in this beautiful country.

If you’re a history-loving couple, the Museum Hotel in Cappadocia, Turkey allows you to step back in time with its unique cave abode.  The hotel was restored from old ruins and decorated so that guests experience the history and culture of Cappadocia . All of the rooms, restaurant, reception, and exterior areas of the Museum Hotel are decorated with various antiquities from the Seljuk, Ottoman, Roman and Hittite periods.  From here you and your loved one can view the sights of Cappadocia, such as Avanos , Goreme , Guvercinlik Vadisi (Pigeon Valley), and Kizil Vadi (Red Valley)from anywhere in the hotel, because it is situated on a hill.  You can take a cooking lesson to create a nostalgic meal once back home, explore the hotel’s garden and pick your own vegetables, play golf at the driving range, take a hot air balloon ride, or witness the Whirling Dervishes Ceremony.

At one time the only way to visit Islamlar was to dine in one of the renowned village trout restaurants whilst admiring the views across the mountain range to Kalkan and the long stretch of beach at Patara. Nowadays, however, a few houses have become available for guests to enjoy.

Islamlar provides a real insight into life as it has been in rural Turkey with its çay (tea) garden and a bakery that still uses an old mill-stone.  If you’re looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this region can make for a great retreat.

A city built on Byzantine foundations over seven hills and surrounded on three sides by water, Istanbul provides a cultural getaway that’s full of diversity.  A place where ancient civilisation meets a modern metropolis.  Whether you want to indulge your taste buds with the array of restaurants the city has to offer, go clubbing, visit its abundance of historical buildings, haggle in its bazaars or soak up the views from its coastlines, Istanbul is perfect for couples looking to be spoiled for choice on a cultural front.  You and your loved one can kick back and relax in a tavern or çay (tea) garden, dance, shop or indulge yourselves with historical facts and artifacts.  In a less obvious way, Istanbul can provide for a romantic holiday as you enjoy a city steeped in culture, as you explore its offerings strolling hand in hand.

I like reading the names of the places in Turkey. It’s like making some places of the Bible more real for me.
